Ottawa House of Commons Admonishes Private Citizen for First Time

Kristian Firth of GC Strategies Faces Scrutiny

Parliamentarians Raise Concerns over ArriveCan Contract

Ottawa, Canada - The House of Commons has taken the unprecedented step of admonishing a private citizen, Kristian Firth, for his role in the controversy surrounding the ArriveCan app contract. Firth, a partner in the consulting firm GC Strategies, faced more than three hours of questioning from parliamentarians on Wednesday.

The admonishment comes amid allegations that GC Strategies lobbied government officials on behalf of the company that ultimately secured the contract to develop the ArriveCan app. Firth has denied any wrongdoing but has not been able to fully explain his involvement in the affair.

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates voted to admonish Firth after concluding that he "demonstrated a lack of respect for Parliament" and "knowingly misled" parliamentarians during his previous testimony.

Opposition MPs have accused Firth and GC Strategies of using their connections to the Liberal government to secure the contract. Government officials have defended the process, saying it was conducted fairly and transparently.

The ArriveCan app has been criticized for its technical glitches and privacy concerns. The app is mandatory for all travelers entering Canada and has been used to collect information on travelers' health and travel history.

The admonishment of Firth marks a significant escalation in the controversy surrounding the ArriveCan contract. It remains to be seen whether the investigation will lead to further action or charges.
